Thor: Love and Thunder explores more of Odinson's battles with his past and future, but forgets the main elements of his established character arc.
The film Thor: Love and Thunder online narrates the next steps in Thor's journey, and while it covers some of the major parts of his character, it also ignores most of the earlier stories.
As a member of the original Avengers lineup and having debuted in only the fourth MCU film, Thor has had a long and complicated timeline.
While the story is internally consistent, Film Thor 4: Láska jako hrom seems to have forgotten most of the narrative from the previous story. Much of the previous story revolved around the idea that Thor felt like he had failed in some way and worked to regain his confidence in himself as he learned to be a better hero.
In Thor: Ragnarok he believed he had let Asgard down, but he came to lead them.
Later in the films Avengers: Infinity War and Avengers: Endgame, Thor believed he had failed by not stopping Thanos' atrocities, but he realized he needed to further explore who he was and define himself.
So Thor gives leadership to Valkyrie, played by Tessa Thompson, when she travels with the Guardians of the Galaxy.
Stories in the MCU often use symbolism to represent past traumas and struggles, such as the scars sometimes seen on the hands of Benedict Cumberbatch's Doctor Strange.
For Thor in Thor: Ragnarok, a key part of this symbolism is Thor's loss of eye due to his battle with Hela, which causes him to wear an eye patch for the rest of the film and Avengers: Infinity War. When he travels with Rocket and Groot, Rocket gives Thor the cybernetic eye he stole.
These eyes are a different brown color from Thor's original eye color which is more blue, but it manages to serve as part of his character's journey as Thor begins to bond with the Guardians and continues his quest to defeat Thanos.
While those eyes remain visible in their brown/gold hue throughout Avengers: Endgame, that detail is forgotten in Thor: Love and Thunder with Thor having two blue eyes once again.
Why do Thor's eyes look normal in Love and Thunder?
Several camera shots for the film Thor: Love and Thunder provide a close-up of Thor's eyes and show the two turning a sharp blue with no discernible difference.
It is possible that this was a simple filming error, or a change made to avoid complexity in working on the effects.
Whether actor Chris Hemsworth has to wear colored contact lenses or the editing team has to step in and touch the eyes in most of the camera shots, the extra work will be a huge distraction for what might seem like minor details.
However, given the importance of imagery to the character and Chris Hemsworth's memory of his own character's appearance, there may be a certain reason why Thor has both his blue eyes in Love and Thunder.
