One Piece Uncover the Mystery Ability of Luffy's Gear Five Devil Fruit (Sun God Nika)

One Piece anime fans still have to be patient waiting for the latest chapter to come out. Eiichiro Oda as the author of One Piece previously announced a one-month hiatus to perfect the ending of the adventure story of Monkey D. Luffy.

In the previous One Piece chapter, Eiichiro Oda revealed many mysteries regarding the protagonist of the Straw Hat Luffy story.

One of the previous One Piecer discussions was the revelation of Luffy's true devil fruit ability which was completely different from what was previously believed.

Eiichiro Oda via Road to Laugh Tale vol. 3 explains a lot about the mysteries surrounding the Sun God Nika and Luffy's Gear five.

From the beginning of the story, One Piece readers believed that Luffy's power came from eating the Gomu Gomu no Mi, a Paramecia-type Devil Fruit that gives the body the properties of rubber.

However, during the fight against Kaido, Luffy was finally able to 'awaken' the ability of his devil fruit.

Awakening or also known as 'awakening' is a term used to indicate that a person's mind and body are able to harness the true potential of their Devil Fruit.

When this happens, it is revealed that the Gomu Gomu no Mi is actually a fake name given by the World Government to another Devil Fruit, whose existence they wish to hide.

The devil fruit in question is the Mythical Zoan Hito Hito no Mi Model: Nika or the sun god.

Just like other Mythical Zoan, this fruit gives the power that is connected with a legendary figure, in this case a mysterious god named Nika.

After resurrecting him, Luffy exhibits strange abilities, including the power to freely change his body and surroundings according to his imagination. It even allows him to defeat the strongest creature in the world, Kaido. On Road to Laugh Tale vol. 3 there is new information about Devil Fruits, and Luffy is the main focus.

It is clearly stated that 'awakening' allows Luffy to reach his peak power to turn imagination into reality.

Rubber is a very malleable material, so I think this could explain the ability Luffy demonstrated during the fight. For example, the special asserts that when he picks up lightning, it's because he turns it into rubber.

Road to Laugh Tale vol. 3 also adds a bit of important info which is useful for understanding Luffy's new powers.

In the Mythical Zoan types section, it is determined that "the majority of them seem to possess unique abilities similar to Paramecia's on top of standard Zoan transformations."

This means Luffy's Gomu Gomu ability is part of Nika's basic strength. For example, Kaido was able to shoot fire from his mouth because it was an Azure Dragon ability that he changed, thanks to his Mythical Zoan.

However, Luffy's Devil Fruit is still unique, because even though it is a Zoan, his 'awakening' can affect the user's environment like a paramecia-type Devil Fruit.

Apart from transforming into a new form that is Gear Five, he also exhibits abilities that affect his surroundings.

That is, at the same time Luffy has awakened the power of Paramecia and Zoan simultaneously. Perhaps this is what is unique about Nika's abilities, and why it is considered the "silliest power in the world".

There is still much to be said about this Devil Fruit, such as who Nika really is and why the World Government has tried for centuries unsuccessfully to hide its existence. It will all be revealed in more detail when One Piece has completed its hiatus.

For now fans seem to be satisfied with the clarification updates that have emerged from the Road to Laugh Tale series.
