Some time ago, film fans were stunned by the trailer for the latest live action film adaptation released by Walt Disney Pictures, Pinocchio (2022). How not, in addition to the adorable shape of the wooden doll, the presence of a number of top stars also becomes an attraction.
From a series of famous actors who appear in the trailer, Tom Hanks is the one who stole the attention. The senior actor born in California, United States looks so convincing as Geppetto, a woodcarver and adoptive father of Pinocchio.
Speaking of Tom Hanks, this is not the actor's first collaboration with Disney, you know. Prior to Pinocchio, Hanks had starred in several cool Disney films. Here are the six titles!
1. Splash (1984)
Romantic comedy genre, Splash is really recommended for those of you who like mermaid-themed movies. In this film, Tom Hanks plays Allen Bauer, a man who repeatedly fails to build a romantic relationship.
One day, Allen drowns in the sea and is saved by a beautiful woman who turns out to be a mermaid. The funny thing is, the mermaid he named Madison (Daryl Hannah) followed him into the city.
In the city, Allen teaches Madison various things about humans, including love and compassion. How are you tempted to watch this 1985 Best Original Screenplay Oscar-nominated film?
2. Turner & Hooch (1989)
Have you watched Turner & Hooch (2021)? Apparently, the series that aired last year on Disney+ was based on the film of the same name starring Tom Hanks, you know.
The storyline of the original film focuses on Scott Turner (Hanks), a detective who is forced to take care of a dog named Hooch (Beasley the Dog). No ordinary dog, Hooch is the only eye witness to a murder case.
In addition to the unique criminal case, the hilarious interactions between Hanks and Beasley are also the main attraction in Turner & Hooch. Therefore, it is not surprising that this film became the inspiration for many TV shows that were released later, such as Scrubs (2001--2010) and Castle (2009--2016).
3. Toy Story film series (1995, 1999, 2010, 2019)
It is undeniable, Woody, Andy's favorite cowboy doll in the Toy Story franchise, is one of the iconic roles that Tom Hanks has played. Although only limited to voice, the actor is able to "inject" feelings into the animated character.

If you like black comedy genre films, The Ladykillers is one that you must watch. In collaboration with well-known actors, such as Tom Hanks, J. K. Simmons, to Marlon Wayans, this film is an adaptation of the British film of the same name which was released in 1955 ago.
Directed by the Coen Brothers, The Ladykillers is about a professor who recruits a group of criminals to break into a casino. However, their actions are always blocked by Marva Munson (Irma P. Hall), the old widow as well as the landlady who is super curious, fierce, and chatty.
5. Saving Mr. Banks (2013)
Often appearing in Disney films, Tom Hanks is trusted to play the founder, the one and only, Walter Elias Disney aka Walt Disney. Entitled Saving Mr. Banks, this biopic is directed by John Lee Hancock, a successful filmmaker through The Blind Side (2009) and The Founder (2016).
In this film, Hanks co-starred with Emma Thompson who played the character of P. L. Travers, author of the Mary Poppins children's book series. Savings Mr. Banks recounts Disney's (Hanks) efforts to persuade Travers (Thompson) to agree to the Mary Poppins adaptation rights.
Not only that, this film also highlights Travers' childhood in Queensland, Australia which became the biggest inspiration for the story of Mary Poppins. You yourself have witnessed Saving Mr. Banks, yet?
6. Bridge of Spies (2015)
Two years after starring in Saving Mr. Banks, Tom Hanks was hooked by Steven Spielberg to play in his historical-themed film, Bridge of Spies. Set during the Cold War, the film follows the prisoner exchange negotiations between the United States and the Soviet Union.
Hanks was cast as James B. Donovan, the lawyer who played a role in the release of Francis Gary Powers (Austin Stowell), a U.S. pilot. Air Force held by the Soviet Union. In exchange, the FBI must release Rudolf Abel (Mark Rylance), a KGB spy caught on conspiracy charges.
