Lee Jung Jae debuted as a director through the big screen film Hunt. The 'Squid Game' actor shared his story of completing his first major project.

Lee Jung Jae is a famous South Korean actor who is known through the global Netflix series 'Squid Game'. His success as an actor did not make him satisfied, he spread his wings as part of the behind the scenes through the film 'modern history of South Korea.

“Hunt” is set in 1980s South Korea and follows the story of two National Intelligence Service (NIS) agents who uncover shocking truths while pursuing the person responsible for spying on North Korea.

In addition to directing the film, Lee Jung Jae also appears as the main character, agent Park Pyung Ho who competes in acting with his best friend in acting Jung Woo Sung, as Kim Jung Do, Park Pyung Ho's partner and rival.

'Hunt' premiered at the 75th Cannes International Film Festival in May. Unfortunately taking on the complex history of South Korea, the film was judged by critics to be difficult to understand for overseas audiences. Regarding this, the director voiced his thoughts after returning from one of the biggest film festivals in the world.

“I immediately made adjustments on the flight home. I blamed myself for thinking that I made this film easy to understand even for Korean teenagers and Koreans in their 20s, but it didn't work out well even at Cannes," Lee Jung Jae quoted Lee Jung Jae as saying via the Soompi website on Friday (05/05/2020). 08/2022).

Meanwhile, the 49-year-old actor admitted that he wrote the screenplay for 'Hunt' while filming 'Squid Game' so it was not easy for him to finish. “I thought it was a waste not to film it, so I started directing it.
