Not even half a year since the release of 365 Days: This Day, the sequel to the 365 Days trilogy ending entitled The Next 365 Days has been released. Why Netflix wants to keep releasing it even though the second film has a 0% rating on RottenTomatoes is a mystery. It could be that they were already shooting back-to-back. Or maybe there are still people watching this franchise even though the quality is very bad.
The Next 365 Days opens with answers to the mysteries of the cliffhanger of the second film. Laura (Anna-Maria Siecklucka) survives a telenovela-style gunfight at the end of the previous film involving twin brother Massimo (Michele Morrone) and a broken-hearted ex. Laura and Massimo's relationship was calm.
They are still making out and their problems have never been separated from sex. Massimo who is an evil gangster refuses to have sex with Laura who has just finished surgery and Laura is cranky. This conflict occurred in the first ten minutes.
I don't know exactly what made Laura and Massimo's relationship strained considering they were the most lustful people I've ever seen on screen, but clearly they both decided to take a break from their relationship. Laura decides to go back to work in the fashion department and Massimo... continues to be a gangster and a hottie who goes to sex clubs.
In this film, sad scenes have to be shown in a place where women show cleavage and people do lewd activities in public while pop music is playing loudly. Because there is still an hour and a half to complete the plot, the script writer then displays the male figure who had previously made Laura confused. Nacho (Simone Susinna) comes and throws her mind into chaos.
He even dreamed of watching Nacho kiss Massimo. What does all this mean? Will Laura return to Massimo's arms? Or is he better off with Nachos?
When I watched the second film, I thought that there couldn't be a worse film than this. 365 Days: This Day is two hours I will never get back. There's no story in it other than handsome and beautiful people making love with ugly pop music behind them.
But it turns out that when compared to this film, the second film is still an effort. The scriptwriter (written by four people: Tomasz Kimala, Barbara Bialowas, Tomasz Mandes, Blanka Lipinska) tries to give a twist by putting Massimo's evil twin brother as well as Massimo's equally handsome rival.
The ending is also quite surprising. The Next 365 Days on the other hand shows no effort at all. Until the end of the film, I did not get anything other than handsome actors running here and there, wearing sparkly clothes, standing in photogenic places and trying hard to look serious.
To be honest, this is a difficult task considering all the dialogues in this film are written by elementary school children. The first time I saw the first film, 365 Days, I was surprised by what the film had to offer. The sex scenes are straightforward, as if mocking the Fifty Shades of Gray series, which at that time was still a commercial film with a popular sex theme.
But maybe we all watched the film because we were all stuck in the middle of a pandemic. Because after I watched it again, the first film also did not provide anything other than horrendous sex scenes. Worse, it left a legacy of the next two films that were truly unwatchable.
I absolutely do not recommend this film even if you watched the previous two films. You have nothing to lose if you miss this one. Even if you are curious about The Next 365 Days, I suggest you watch it while doing other activities like washing dishes, cooking or ironing clothes because once the movie ends, at least your homework is done.
