It is common for a band to exist because they are inspired by their idols. But recently, a music group has emerged and is considered the reincarnation of a legendary band. After Greta Van Vleet rocked the music world for being similar to Led Zeppelin, now there is Deraps that resembles Van Halen in the past.
Greta Van Fleet was officially founded in 2012 in Michigan, United States. The band is fronted by three brothers, namely Josh Kiszka (vocals), Jake Kiszka (guitar), and Sam Kiszka (bass). Then there was drummer Kyle Hauck who stayed until 2013, and was replaced by Danny Wagne until now. Greta Van Vleet has released two studio albums, Anthem of the Peacful Army (2018) and The Battle at Garden's Gate (2021). They gained momentum and kicked off the world of music in 2017.
On March 31, 2017, their song "Highway Tune" was officially released on iTunes which became the band's first official single. A month later the video clip again was uploaded to YouTube, and got a great response. Apple Music honored Greta Van Fleet as New Artist of The Week in April 2017.
This song is very thick with the nuances of Led Zeppelin. Especially from the guitar distortion and Josh Kiszka's vocals. At the beginning of the song, Josh screams almost the same as the voice of Robert Plant, lead singer of Led Zeppelin. Even some old music fans thought this was Plant's voice. Some thought that Led Zeppelin, which disbanded in 1980, was active again and recorded new songs. Turns out they guessed wrong, because it was a song by Greta Van Fleet.
The smell of Led Zeppelin is increasingly felt when the personnel of Greta Van Fleet always dress up in the rocket style of the 70s, with shirts and tight pants, messy hair. Even the video clips they make also use vintage colors. It further confirms that they are considered the reincarnation of Led Zeppelin.
Switch to 2022, where a band called Deraps appears. The band consists of only three personnel, namely Jacob Deraps (guitar and vocals), William Lachance (bass), and Josh Gallagher (drums). Initially, Jacob and Josh often collaborated to cover other people's songs on YouTube. Uniquely, Jacob lives in Canada, and Josh is in Australia. However, due to a collaborative project with the legendary band Toto, they finally met in Canada. Even Jacob had the opportunity to play with his idol, namely Steve Lukather, Toto's guitarist.
Since that 2017 project, Jacob and Josh finally decided to form a new band. They included William as a bass player. Uniquely, they even play the same musical color as Van Halen, the legendary United States music group that has been inactive since 2020, after Eddie Van Halen died.
Actually, in 2017, the official website of the Van Halen band, vhnd.com, once wrote that there were musicians who played Van Halen's old songs perfectly. Even the guitars of Jacob and the late Eddie Van Halen are indistinguishable. Even better, Jacob can play guitar while singing. Even though Van Halen's songs are very difficult to play while singing. But Jacob could master both things well.
Unfortunately the news did not reach the ears of music fans. In the end, Deraps recorded his own songs, and collected them into one album titled Deraps (self titled). From there, they also make video clips that are increasingly recognized by music fans. Jacob himself often plays the guitar technique "Eruption" which is characteristic of Eddie Van Halen at concerts.
After Eddie's death, Van Halen officially disbanded. But his fans are now turning to Deraps. Their songs have the same color as Van Halen. Not only that, the dressing style of the Deraps personnel is also similar to Van Halen. From this, Deraps is often referred to as the reincarnation of Van Halen.
