Black Panther 2 Tops the Box Office for Week One

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever topped the throne in the North American box office in its debut weekend.

Ticket sales in the first week reached US$158 million or around Rp2.4 trillion in North American cinemas.

Meanwhile, Black Panther 2's appearance in international theaters managed to earn US$150 million or Rp.2.3 trillion from 55 countries.

Thus, reported by Variety, Sunday (13/11), the film directed by Ryan Coogler managed to pocket revenues with a total of US $ 330 million globally.

Coogler made Black Panther: Wakanda Forever a tribute film for the late Chadwick Boseman, who previously played T'Challa aka Black Panther.

However, Boseman died in 2020 after battling colon cancer. This grief was channeled by Coogler to become the basis for the story of the Black Panther sequel film. In the second film, the kingdom of Wakanda is still mourning the death of King T'Challa.

After Black Panther 2, Black Adam took second place at the North American box office. The film from the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) pocketed US$8.6 million domestically or around Rp.133 billion.

Then the North American box office performance was followed by Ticket to Paradise with US$6.1 million, Lyle, Lyle Crocodice with US$3.2 million, and Smile with US$2.3 million.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is the second Black Panther film that continues the story of the nation of Wakanda after T'Challa's death. The film is being written and directed by Ryan Coogler.

This sequel stars Letitia Wright, Lupita Nyong'o, Danai Gurira, Winston Duke, and Angela Bassett. This film will also be Dominique Thorne's debut as Riri Williams aka Ironheart, a young superhero who will become a member of the Young Avengers.

Apart from that, Black Panther 2 will also be Tenoch Huerta's debut as Namor in the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU). Namor is the ruler of the Talokan nation, a nation known as a paradise under the sea.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever has been showing in Indonesian cinemas since November 9.
