Pinocchio 2022 Film Review Released on Netflix
Pinocchio, a classic tale of the wooden doll made by the old carpenter Geppetto, loves to lie until his nose grows longer, what child (or was once a child) did not know him?
In the cold hands of director Guillermo Del Toro, who is known for making dark mystery or horror films, the figure of Pinocchio is very different from what we know so far in Disney story books or animated films.
The story is set in Benito Mussolini's Italy, where life was not easy. Boys are sent to fight, including Pino who is a wooden puppet Geppetto fashioned to replace his dead son, Carlo.
Here, the different aura is really felt from those made by Disney and the sweet fairy tale books that we enjoyed when we were little. Pinocchio is not shown wearing colorful clothes or funny hats, but rather frail and without a doll's clothes.
There is no funny Jiminy Cricket, the name of the cricket who is the narrator throughout this story is Sebastian, who seems serious even though sometimes he is humorous plus makes wise words. Some of the companion characters who become Pinocchio's friends and enemies also seem dark, not funny, attractive, full of color.
Without wanting to divulge the contents, the core of the film and story are pretty much the same as Pinocchio basically. However, like other Guillermo Del Toro films, there are always surprises, dark humor and pokes. Some of the scenes are a little satirical or make those who don't like the 'mental' feel, so please don't get upset easily or rush to judge Pinocchio as 'disrespectful' because the wooden boy is still innocent like children in general. Easily influenced, likes to ask questions, and sometimes installments.
Watching this film will make us laugh and cry at the same time, my advice, prepare tissue paper. Often we will reflect and remember what happened in this film often happens in our own lives.
If you are a father, maybe you can watch this movie with your (old/teenage) son. Can create a good family bonding as well as a gentle reminder.
This film, which is basically made for all ages, is full of jokes, laughter, tears, and moral messages. However, if I may be advised, don't let children watch alone, it's best to watch it with their parents. Some of the use of words and scenes still require wisdom and in-depth explanation from adults so that children do not necessarily imitate them.
