Christmas Day will soon arrive. Of course, the entertainment industry has prepared a variety of the latest films, especially shows with Christmas and New Year nuances to accompany and entertain people who are enjoying their holidays.
One of the most famous Christmas movies is "Home Alone", which tells of a clever little boy who is able to set a trap for robbers who try to break into his house.
This year, another new Christmas-themed film is coming to Indonesia, namely "Violent Night". Judging from the title, "Violent Night" or "Night of Violence" might not sound at all suitable for the feel of a joyful Christmas.
However, this film is no less interesting than "Home Alone". "Violent Night" is an action comedy film starring David Harbour, John Leguizamo, Cam Gigandet and Alex Hassell.
Almost the same as "Home Alone", this film also tells about a group of robbers who want to steal in a house belonging to a very wealthy family. The robbers also intended to steal the safe containing 300 million US dollars in it.
However, different from "Home Alone", it wasn't a child who was able to set a trap and defeat the gang of robbers. The figure who is able to slaughter the robbers is actually Santa Claus.
Unexpectedly, on that night when the robbers were carrying out their actions, Santa Claus (David Harbour) was at the house to deliver Christmas gifts. However, Santa Claus accidentally caught the robbers.
That night, a Christmas miracle came to the house. Santa Claus then tries to help save the family in the house. It is on this side that "Violent Night" tries to present a different Santa Claus character compared to other Christmas-themed films.
In general, the figure of Santa Claus is described as a figure delivering gifts on Christmas Eve who is very cheerful and friendly. However, in this film, Santa Claus is also described as having extraordinary fighting abilities. He also showed his fighting skills against the robbers.
In this film, the man who becomes Santa Claus is initially depicted as a desperate and drunken man. This is of course very contrary to the figure of Santa Claus that has been told to children. However, it is from this point of view that the film "Violent Night" is interesting to watch.
In the midst of his despair at Christmas, Santa Claus finds himself again by helping the family fight the robbers.
Unfortunately, all the adults in this film don't believe that the real Santa Claus is really real in front of them. They actually think that the figure of Santa Claus is just a paid man who is hired to entertain a family's Christmas celebration.
Luckily, a girl named Trudy still believes that Santa Claus is real. They also then communicate with each other and work together secretly to fight and drive out the robbers.
Apart from showing the fighting actions between Santa Claus and the robbers, this film written by Pat Casey and Josh Miller will also invite laughter from the audience. Because this film also presents comedic scenes.
However, unfortunately the comedies presented in this film are not suitable for children to watch. Therefore, "Violent Night" can only be watched by audiences who are 17 years and over.
In this film, it's as if David Harbor doesn't need much effort to play his role as Santa Claus. This is because his physical appearance in the film is quite in accordance with his character, namely a Santa Claus in a red shirt, white beard, but has a face and posture that is frightening enough to fight robbers.
When compared to "Home Alone", "Violent Night" also presents a scene where a small child tries to trap the robbers. However, this film has lots of dark jokes dialogue which can still make the audience laugh.
In addition, unlike "Home Alone", "Violent Night" features more violent and bloody fight scenes. These scenes can also be quite disturbing for viewers who are uncomfortable with terrible visuals.
Even so, this film is still interesting to watch from beginning to end. Because, the uniqueness of the figure of Santa Claus in this film is the main attraction. This film shows that Santa Claus also has a dark past and has sadness just like humans in general.
Through those dramatic scenes, this film is also able to show the miracles that are very likely to happen on Christmas Eve. The film "Violent Night" can be seen starting today in all cinemas.
