Never before would anyone have thought that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers, which premiered in 1993, would have a grand reunion after 30 years. The fact is that Netflix and Hasbro are currently preparing a reunion film called Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once and Always, which will soon be released in a special format on its streaming channel. Before seeing the special on the Netflix channel later, let's first discuss some interesting facts from this first Power Rangers generation reunion.
Mighty Morphin's 30th Anniversary Celebration
As a reminder, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers is the first generation Rangers series that aired for approximately two years, from 1993 to 1995. In Indonesia, the series was broadcast on the RCTI television channel in the 90s. Based on these facts, it was not strange that at that time many Indonesian children, although they did not know about Netflix, were already familiar with American superheroes like Power Rangers. Now, according to Netflix and Hasbro, 2023 itself is the ideal year to release the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once and Always special as it coincides with the series' 30th anniversary.
Enlivened by Many Veteran Actors
A few days ago, Netflix announced the release date of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once and Always on its streaming channel. Likewise, the cast will be enlivened by many veteran actors, such as Walter Jones as the first Black Ranger, David Yost as the Blue Ranger II, Steve Cardenas as the Red Ranger II, Johnny Yong Bosch as the Black Ranger II, Karan Ashley as the Yellow Ranger II, and Catherine Sutherland as the Pink Ranger II).
In addition to the Power Rangers cast, longtime actors confirmed to be returning include Richard Steven Horvitz and Barbara Goodson, who will reprise their roles respectively as the voices of robotic helper Alpha 5 and main antagonist Rita Repulsa. Newcomer actress Charlie Kersh is also confirmed to star in the special show as a character named Minh, son of Trini Kwan aka the first Yellow Ranger, played by the late Thuy Trang. Armed with these facts, there is a possibility that Minh will appear as the new Power Rangers in the upcoming Netflix show.
Return of Villain Familiars
With the involvement of voice actress Barbara Goodson, it's clear that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once and Always is meant to return to familiar villains like Rita Repulsa. With this fact, it is not impossible that later we will see more Power Rangers enemies in this Netflix special. For example Rita Repulsa's lover named Lord Zedd, the golden armored monster known as Goldar, or the galactic villain Ivan Ooze who appeared in the movie Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Movie (1995). Become S.P.A Organizational Debut
As we can see in the behind-the-scenes image above, there are two people wearing gray uniforms on the set of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once and Always. They are members of a new organization in their universe called S.P.A. For now, it is still unknown what the name of the organization that will make its debut in this Netflix special stands for. However, many fans have speculated that S.P.A. anything to do with S.P.D. aka Space Police Delta which was previously told as a security guard organization in the galaxy.
Dedicated To The Late Actor
Like it or not, there are some veteran Mighty Morphin Power Rangers actors who won't be able to appear at the reunion. Two of them are the late actress Thuy Trang who played the first Yellow Ranger and actor Jason David Frank who played the Green Ranger. The reason is self-explanatory because both of these actors had passed away before the release of the special, in which Trang died in 2001 and Frank in late 2022. Even so, Netflix and Hasbro have revealed that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once and Always is dedicated to them.
Keep Presenting the Green Ranger
Despite the tragic death of actor Jason David Frank, the good news is that Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Once and Always will still feature the Green Ranger as part of the Power Rangers main team. This is evident from several leaked videos showing the actions of the Green Ranger and other Power Rangers. Where he is still participating in the fight against the monster minions, and it is not impossible that he will also appear with his flagship Zord, namely Dragonzord. We'll see later how the character will be presented, whether the actor changes or the face of the character will not be shown.
